DRAFT - Primary list

The Primary List lets you control which products appear on a page and how they behave. It is the core product selection connected to a category or landing page. By managing the Primary List, you decide which products are included, how they are ranked, and whether they should be enriched with keywords. This gives you direct control over visibility and search impact across your site.

Prerequisites

To work with a Primary List, you need:

  • Access to Elevate with permission to manage pages
  • An existing category or landing page
  • Products available in your catalog

Setting it up

  1. Go to Pages in Elevate.
  2. Open the relevant category or landing page.
  3. Navigate to the Primary List section.
  4. In the Primary List, you can:
    • Define which products are included in the list
    • Adjust list settings and overrides
    • Add keywords to enrich the selected products

The Primary List is always connected to a page, but it works independently as a product selection. The page acts as a container, while the Primary List controls the actual products displayed.

How it works

The Primary List defines the main product selection shown on a category or landing page. When a customer visits the page, products from the Primary List are displayed according to the configured settings.

Keywords added to a Primary List are applied to all products within that list. This means the products are enriched with those keywords and can be returned when customers search for matching terms.

For example, during Black Friday, you can:

  • Create or open a page
  • Add selected products to the Primary List
  • Add Black Friday as a keyword

When a customer searches for Black Friday shoes, Elevate matches the keyword and then applies its relevance logic to return only the relevant products from that list, such as shoes. This ensures customers see filtered and relevant results instead of the entire selection.

Because keywords are strong signals, they override parts of the standard relevance calculation. You should use them carefully and primarily for time-sensitive campaigns, promotions, or specific concepts.

If a concept should always be searchable, we recommend adding it to your product data feed instead of maintaining it manually in Elevate.

How to add keywords to a Primary List

  1. Open the page.
  2. Go to the Primary List.
  3. Activate Keywords.
  4. Choose one of the following options:
    • Use page title as keyword
    • Use page heading as keyword
    • Add custom keywords manually
  5. Save your changes.

Keywords must match search phrases exactly. If you want to cover variations such as Black Friday, Black Week, and Black Month, you need to add each one separately.

When to use the Primary List

Use the Primary List when you want to:

  • Control which products appear on a category or landing page
  • Run seasonal or campaign-based promotions
  • Enrich products with temporary keywords
  • Adjust ranking or list behavior for a specific page

Avoid using keywords for product types, attributes, or concepts that Elevate should already understand, such as colors or standard product categories. In those cases, contact Support so we can update the underlying data model instead.
