Sponsored Products in recommendation lists

Sponsored Products in recommendation lists let you monetise product recommendations by placing the relevant sponsored products alongside organic recommendations. You can control which positions are available for Sponsored Products and which recommendation types allow them, separately for product detail pages and landing pages.

How it works

Sponsored recommendations use the context of the recommendation type to determine which sponsored products are eligible to appear. The retail media auction then determines which eligible sponsored products are shown.

For a Sponsored Product to appear:

  • The recommendation type must support Sponsored Products and be enabled for the page type.
  • The position in the recommendation list must be enabled for Sponsored Products.
  • An eligible sponsored product must be available for that recommendation context.

This means that enabling a position does not guarantee that a Sponsored Product will be shown.

How to configure sponsored recommendations

Go to Admin → Placements.

Sponsored recommendations are configured separately for product detail pages (PDPs) and landing pages.

For the page type you want to configure:

  1. Under Positions, select the positions in the recommendation list where Sponsored Products can appear. You can select multiple positions.
  2. Under Supported Recommendation Types, select which recommendation types can contain Sponsored Products.

The available recommendation types are shown directly in the Admin interface.

These settings only control whether Sponsored Products can appear in a recommendation list. They do not change how the organic recommendation works.

For more information about the different recommendation types, see Recommendation types.
