Slices

Slices let you divide a product list into distinct sections, each with its own product curation. A slice is a curated zone within your page where you control which products appear and how they’re presented—while still using Elevate Relevance for ranking.

Each slice is built around a product set: a named group of products that defines its content. Products within the slice are ranked by Elevate relevance by default, but you can pin specific products to lock them into position.

Before you start, it helps to understand two key concepts:

  • Pages — A pathway in Elevate that can have a product list attached.
  • Product sets — Named collections of products used to populate slices.

Slices work hand-in-hand with positioning, pinning, boost & bury, and exposure strategies — giving you a flexible toolkit for shaping the customer experience.

Creating a slice

To create a slice within a primary list, click the Slices button. You'll be presented with a few options before your slice is created:

  • Apply to subpages — Toggle this on if you want the slice to automatically carry over to subpages that contain products from the same product set. You can always remove that inheritance from individual subpages later.
  • Slice type — Choose between Sequential or Positioned (more on these below).

Sequential slices

Sequential slices are the default. They stack in the order set within the product list.

Select your product set or sets

The product set selector shows all available product sets across markets in your cluster. You can:

  • Search by name using the text filter
  • Switch between viewing all sets or only selected sets
  • Sort the list by product set name, slice size, created/modified or creator

Select a product set by ticking the checkbox next to its name. If you need to make changes to a product set or the slice size before attaching it, hover over the product set in the list and click the Edit button that appears — handy for making quick adjustments without leaving the flow.

Use Edit slice size to limit how many products appear in the slice — anywhere from 1 to 24. If Edit slice size iis not selected, all products in the product set will be shown. And use the Edit product set to open a new window directly to the edit area for the selected product set.

When you are ready press Save or Cancel if you want to abort your changes.

A slice is only shown if its product set overlaps with the page’s product list.
For example, a jewellery product set won’t appear on a page showing men’s shirts.

Once you've added multiple sequential slices, you can reorder them by clicking a slice header and selecting one of the movement options: Move to first, Move up, Move down, or Move to last. Clicking a slice header also lets you edit the Slice directly — handy when you have several slices and want to edit them quickly.

Positioned slices

Positioned slices support up to 5 products and let you control exactly where they appear in the list. Instead of stacking slices, you assign products from a product set to specific positions (for example, 1, 3, or 5). Each position is filled by the most relevant product from that set.

This allows you to blend curated products into the main list rather than grouping them together.

To set up a positioned slice, click Select product sets — you'll see the same searchable, filterable list as with sequential slices. Select the product sets you want to use, then assign each product a position in the list. You can place products wherever makes sense for your page, spreading them across multiple positions to seamlessly blend curated picks into the overall product listing.

When you’re done, click Save and then Publish to apply your changes.
Changes are not visible on your site until you publish.
