Facet management - strategic and operational

Managing facets in a strategic and scalable way is a key part of any data-driven merchandising system like Elevate. Facets play a vital role in the customer journey — powering navigation, filtering, and the user experience on product listing pages. This guide explains how to configure, apply, and optimize facets across different areas of the Elevate platform.

Facet configurator – where you define your facet strategy

The Facet configurator is the place where you define which facets should be available across your platform. Here, you can:

  • Create new facets

  • Choose which attributes from your product data should be facetable

  • Control sort order

Default settings – facet settings per market

Once you’ve selected which attributes should be used as facets in the Facet configurator, you need to define a base configuration for each of your markets. This is done in Experience > Pages > Settings > Default settings

Here, you define, for each market:

  • Which facets are shown site-wide
  • The sort order for facet values

Best practice: Keep this base configuration limited to the most important facets that apply to most pages. For exceptions, use overrides or templates.

Facet overrides – customize when needed

If you want to deviate from the default setup for certain pages, you can create an override:

  • For Search pages – override facets in Experience > Pages > Settings > Auto-complete & Search settings
  • For Local pages – override facets under Experience > Pages > Category & Landing pages, open the specific page and click List settings > Override facets.

This is useful when:

  • You want to highlight specific filters on a campaign page
  • You have seasonal or temporary needs for different facet filters

Facet templates – scalable setup for multiple pages

If you have several landing pages that should use the same facet logic, Facet templates are a better alternative than setting up overrides on each page.

Benefits of using Facet templates:

  • Manage facets in one place (the template)

  • Ideal for multi-market setups where several pages share the same Page ID

  • Easy to update facet logic centrally

Example: If you have a “Women’s jeans” category in several markets, you can create a facet template that includes size, color, fit, and length.
